Hope Ventures is designed to encourage young parents to explore and advance within the world of work and entrepreneurship. While given access to many resources at Bethany Hope Centre, young parents are offered in class and one-on-one support to learn the basic fundamentals of building a small business and/or preparing for employment.

About Hope Ventures


You are:

  • Interested in supporting a young person in developing their business idea
  • Experienced in running your own enterprise OR have business training or skills to share
  • Have 1-2 hours a week to volunteer in person or by phone (for min. of 12 weeks)

Rose's Story

Hope Ventures is a 12 week training program designed to help young parents explore their career options.  The following areas of training and mentorship are offered to participants:

  • Career exploration
  • Researching self-employment ventures
  • Business Development
  • iSisters Technology Mentoring
  • Professional Skills Development
  • Customer Service
  • Financial Literacy
  • Leadership
  • CPR, First Aid, WMHIS, Food Safety Certification
  • Quarterly Mentor Brunch's and Networking Opportunities
  • Proposal Writing for applicants interested in applying for the Hope Ventures $1,500 Start-Up Grant

Additionally, we offer access to on-site child care, bus tickets, and lunch to participants during

Hope Ventures hours.
Schedule: Tuesday's, Wednesday's and Thursday's from 10am-3pm for 12 weeks.

Are you interested in becoming a

Hope Ventures mentor?

Janna Holmes is an award-winning professional educator who has been supporting a variety of learners in the Ottawa area for over 7 years.

Currently, she is an English Communications professor and academic advisor at Algonquin College in the General Arts and Science department. She received her M.A. in Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies from Carleton University in 2009 and B.A in Psychology and Linguistics from the University of Ottawa in 2007. She is an avid runner and busy mother of two young boys.

As an Ottawa native, Janna is proud to be a community mentor for Bethany Hope Centre’s Hope Ventures.
